Wintering Dahlia Tubers
One of the questions we get asked this time of year is, ‘When should we dig up our Dahlia tubers?’
Wait until the foliage starts to die back or there is a hard freeze. Then cut back the foliage right before you dig up the tubers. Be careful digging them up, try not to nick them in the process. Once the tubers have been cleaned, dry them by laying them out in a cool place for a few days and don’t forget to label! You can write the variety directly on the tuber with a sharpie. You can pack them away for the winter in either wood chips or peat moss and store in a cool place until the spring.
May seem like a lot of work but the beautiful blooms make it all worth it!
